Tennis Star Nick Kyrgios Breaks Down for Australia Wildfire Victims

Greek Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios burst into tears after his win on Friday’s ATP Cup, where he played to raise money for the victims of the devastating wildfires that sweep across Australia.

Kyrgios had previously announced his initiative to raise money for those affected by the fires. He would be donating 200 Australian dollars per ace, in an effort to ease the pain of hundreds of families across the country.

During his game against Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, Kyrgios not only won 6-4 7-6 (7-4), but also achieved 20 aces, raising valuable money for those in real need.

Speaking after the game, Kyrgios could not but show his feelings. ”We have the most toxic air in the world, it’s pretty sad,” he said, before breaking down.

Kyrgios’ initiative, which was praised and applauded by hundreds of social media users, had a domino effect since Tennis Australia announced that it will hold a ”Rally for Relief” event on January 15 in Melbourne, to help the families of the victims of the wildfires.

Australia has been suffering for weeks from extensive bushfires in most of its territory.

The state of New South Wales is affected the most, but tens of other places across the country continue to struggle with devastating fires.
