Greek Australians Pay Respects to Archbishop Stylianos (video)

Hundreds of mourners paid their respects on Friday to Archbishop Stylianos at the Cathedral Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney, where the body of the Archbishop lies in repose.

The multifaceted religious leader, who was an inspiration for decades to Greek Orthodox Christians as well as a published poet, passed away on March 25 at age 84.

The Cathedral will remain open throughout the evening and overnight for further readings of the Holy Gospel.

The Archbishop’s funeral will be held at the Cathedral on Saturday, March 30, at 11.30 AM.  A Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will take place prior to the funeral, from 7:00 am to 10:00 AM.

The burial will follow at Rookwood Cemetery, where a procession will be formed including many Australian bishops and clerics. They will process up to the tomb behind the Holy Sanctuary of St. Athanasios Church.
