Australian PM Scott Morrison Sends Message to Greek Australians for March 25th

Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison sent a message to Greek Australians on the occasion of March 25th, Greece’s Independence Day.

The complete message by the Australian PM:

“I am pleased to send my best wishes to everyone celebrating Greek Independence Day, a significant occasion commemorating the historic events of 1821 and the patriotism and pride that unites Hellenic communities around the world today.

Home to one of the largest Greek populations outside of Greece, Australia is blessed to be part of these celebrations. As a community we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for independence, and celebrate the flourishing culture and achievements of Greece.

Events like Greek Independence Day are an important part of our nation’s multicultural character, enabling the Greek Australian community to share its rich history and traditions with the broader community.

As a nation, we are fortunate to live in a nation of peace and goodwill, where people from around the globe, and from all walks of life, live together in remarkable harmony. Our cohesion and resilience comes from our respect for diversity, and a strong belief that no one should have to forget where they have come from.

As the ‘Father of Federation’, Sir Henry Parkes, expressed more than a century ago, it is “all the fruits of the culture of the world” that give our nation strength.

I thank all the organisers and attendees of this year’s Greek Independence Day for your commitment to these ideals. You certainly have every reason to celebrate—may you do so with pride and passion.”

The Hon Scott Morrison MP,
Prime Minister of Australia
