Greek-Kiwi Footballer’s Poignant Tribute to Christchurch Terror Victims (video)

Footballer Kosta Babarouses – a 28-year-old born in Wellington of Greek heritage – has been praised for a classy tribute to the Christchurch shootings victims after scoring an A-League goal.

The Melbourne Victory forward sank to his knees in a prayerful gesture after netting the first of his two goals against the Brisbane Roar on Saturday night.

Barbarouses celebrated his 50th Victory goal by running to the goal line and bowing with his head to the ground in what appeared to be an imitation of a Muslim prayer, a tribute to those murdered in the horrific atrocity at a Christchurch mosque in his homeland on Friday.

On 27 June 2012, Barbarouses signed a one-year loan contract with Greek giants Panathinaikos. His stand out moment was when he played against Greatest Rivals Olympiacos in a league match in Piraeus in a 1–1 draw.
