Greek Singer Alkinoos Ioannidis to Perform at 29th GCM Festival

alkinoos-ioannidisThe famous Greek singer and songwriter Alkinoos Ioannidis will be traveling to Melbourne to perform at the 29th Lonsdale Festival on Saturday, February 27.

The Greek-Cypriot singer will be added to long list of distinguished artists that have performed in the longstanding festival, such as Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Haris Alexiou, Glykeria, Dimitra Galani, of Alkistis Protopsalti and Mihalis Hatzigiannis.

Ioannidis combines electronic music with a chamber orchestra, a rock band and a choir, producing music with Greek and Middle Eastern influences. He will be accompanied by Giorgo Kaloudis (cello, cretan lyre), Dimitris Chatzizisis (violin), Dimitris Tsekouras (double bass) and Manolis Pappos (bouzouki), offering a magnificent set for all musical tastes.

“We are very proud to have secured another international artist who will delight the audience in Melbourne during the free concert in the heart of Lonsdale Street festival. Concerts are able to strengthen our love for Greek culture, attracting thousands of people every year,” said Jorge Menidis director of the Contemporary Greek Cultural Centre.

“I am honored to be invited to perform at such a successful Greek festival and I look forward to returning to Australia. It is very encouraging to see how popular Greek culture is in a country more than 8,000 miles away from Europe. Greek communities should be proud of their role in this achievement,” said Alkinoos Ioannidis.

Lonsdale Street Festival offers free entertainment, Greek food, music and dancing, cooking workshops, contests and children’s activities to its audience every year. It is organized annually by the Greek Community of Melbourne and this year it will take place on February 27 and 28.
