Greek Australian Cultural League 5th Annual Art Exhibition

antipodeanpaletteThis year’s Antipodean Palette “Call for Entries” organized by the Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne received an overwhelming response making it a difficult task for our panel to decide.

The ‘Antipodean Palette’ aims to support Visual Arts in the community by showcasing a variety of works by practicing Greek-Australian artists. This year’s artists will be: Angy Labiris, Agi Argyropoulos, Anne Warren, Basil Psanoudakis (representing the WA artist group Masonik), Christos Avramoudas, Con Emmanuelle, Effie Mandalos, Frixos loannides, James Raftopoulos, Jenny Dumont, Mary Raphael, Sofronis Michaelidis, Soula Mantalvanos, Thalia Andrews and Tony Pierrakos.

They will exhibit a variety of work such as paintings, illustrations, mixed media and 3D installations, collages, copper-etch and risograph prints, photography and silvercraft.

The exhibition will be held at Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon St Carlton from August 13 until August 23, 10 am to 4 pm daily. An opening celebration will commence at 6:30 pm on Thursday, August 13 with special guests, such as Martin Foley MP, Minister for Creative Industries and the Greek Consul General, Christina Simantirakis. The 10-day event will also include an afternoon of bi-lingual poetry readings on Sunday August 16 at 4 pm.

The Greek Australian Cultural League (GACL) is a non-profit organization established in 1970, supporting the creative endeavours of Greek Australian writers, artists and musicians. Awarded a Medal for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs & Meritorious Service to the Community, the GACL contributes to the enrichment of literature and the arts by organizing many successful annual events.
