Deep Outback: Greek-Australian Artist Mary Raphael‏ Exhibition

exhibition-Mary-RaphaelThe Eltham Library Community Gallery in Victoria will kick off the winter season on June 11, with an exhibition that brings the energy and magnificence of the Australian Outback to life.

Deep Outback is a collection of works by Greek-Australian artist Mary Raphael, whose use of colour and texture highlights the grandeur and uniqueness of the Australian spiritual heartland.

With the inventive use of acrylic paints, brushes, palette knives and any implement she believes will recreate the image in her mind onto her canvas, Mary creates contemporary impressionistic landscapes, inspired by her months and months of first hand exploration of our remote outback.

“Our outback is so much more than burnt brown land” says Mary, “and I hope to evoke the mystique, enormity and uniqueness of it with this exhibition.”

Deep Outback commences on June 11, and goes through to July 6, at ELCG, Panther Place, Eltham. The official opening is on Sunday June 14 between 2 and 4pm, where refreshments will be served.

“I hope my exhibition will either inspire those who have yet to explore the outback to do so, or remind those who have, of the peace, energy and tranquillity it possesses,” noted the Greek-Australian artist.
