A Musical Journey from Crete to Sydney

IMG_1449On Friday March 13, over 300 people gathered at St George Sailing Club in Sans Souci for an entirely Cretan experience. Under Cretan Sails was programmed as part of the 33rd Greek Festival of Sydney and proved to be an unforgettable night out for all who attended.

Local Sydney band Iho Nyx provided 3 hours of live musical entertainment, with an impressive program that included traditional Cretan music and contemporary songs. The audience was treated to the sounds of traditional instruments like the lyra, lute, bouzouki, percussion and guitars played with modern arrangements.

The evening also included a wonderful Cretan dance performance which greatly enthused the audience, who swarmed to the dance floor to join them and stayed there until late in the evening. Iho Nyx gave a truly remarkable performance in an equally remarkable venue with water views as far as the eye could see.

Iho Nyx is made up of Adonis Petrandonakis (Lyra, Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals), Angelo Goutzios (Lute, bouzouki and vocals), George Ganakas (Bass), Spiro Arkoudis (percussion) and Sam Christoulides (Keyboard and vocals).
