Two Greek-Australians Among 50 Most Important Artists in the Country

greek-australian-artistsTwo Greek-Australian artists were included on “The Power Trip 2015” list of “The 50 Most Powerful People in Australian Art.” Barry Keldoulis, a Sydney gallery owner, curator and Sydney Contemporary Art Fair and Melbourne Art Fair director, took the 7th place.

In the past, Barry Keldouli has collaborated with leading art collectors in the U.S., as well as famous artists such as Andy Warhol. After his return to Australia he worked with some of the country’s most well-known painters and sculptors.

Meanwhile, Michael Zavros, placed 41st on the list. The young Greek-Australian award-winning artist has been greatly inspired by ancient Greek mythology and the modern fashion world.

Michael Zavros was born in 1974 in Queensland, Australia and he studied at Queensland College of Art. Since 2001, he has been organizing exhibitions to showcase his work, on a yearly basis, while several of his art pieces are exhibited in the National Gallery of Australia and some of the country’s top galleries. His works have also been exhibited worldwide.

In 2012 he won the Bulgari Art Award, which included the purchase of his work “The new Round Room” by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
