After week-long coverage of Greeceās political and financial situation in the post-election era, Australian media is estimating that Greece will eventually come to an agreement with the European Union.
The Weekend Australian published an article by Henry Ergas where the journalist states that Greece and the EU will eventually reach an agreement that may not be completely satisfying for either party. Furthermore, the article notes: āWhile Greeceās reforms are certainly incomplete, they do not compare unfavorably to Franceās or Italyās, giving it a plausible claim to equal treatment.ā
The Australian newspaper Sunday Age focused on the Greek Finance Minister Yianis Varoufakisā meeting with Eurogroup representative Jeroen Dijsselbloem noting that āGreece says it will not co-operate with troika or seek aid extension.ā
Finally, the Australian Financial Review published an article entitled āGreek tragedy returns to Eurozone stage,ā while ABC and SBS focused on Angela Merkelās statements were she refused to even consider a Greek debt haircut.
