Giorgos Xylouris and Jim White to Perform in Australia

Xylouris WhiteAfter the great success of their joint performances in the United States, renowned Australian rock drummer Jim White and Greek lute player and singer Giorgos Xylouris have scheduled more performances in various Australian festivals. The two musicians are planning to present some of the songs included in their album “Goats” that was recently released. The album explores and reconstructs the Cretan musical tradition.

White has collaborated with world famous artists such as Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Nina Nastasia, while he has also been a member of several bands, most importantly the famous Dirty Three.

Xylouris is one of Crete‘s most loved and inventive musicians, coming from a family of renowned Greek artists. Xylouris and White met through mutual friends in Melbourne when Xylouris was living in Australia in the early ’90s. The Greek musician collaborated with the Dirty Three on several occasions , while both artists accompanied Psarandonis – Xylouris’ father and one of Greece’s most famous songwriters and lyra performers – on a couple of tours before forming Xylouris White.

Their collaboration offers a perfect mixture of cultures and musical traditions, filled with Cretan dance music entwined with post-rock, free jazz and minimalism, creating fresh and exciting melodies.

The two artists will be performing at the Sydney Festival, Hobart’s MONA/FOMA Festival and in a one-off Melbourne headline show.
