Greek Australian Student Wins Gold Medal in Language Competition

eleni-708Greek Australian Eleni-Penelope Tsolakidou from Queensland won the Greek language Gold Medal in the Language Perfect World Championship 2014.

The 14-year-old student won the international competition top award for the second consecutive year.

The web contest lasted 10 days and Tsolakidou managed to win first place among 300,000 students from 1,200 schools worldwide. She translated thousands of words from Greek to English and vice versa with perfect spelling, while completing her homework and doing her extracurricular activities at the same time.

The Greek Australian student also excelled in the music extension class, as she plays piano, guitar and ukulele. She took the examinations for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) scoring excellent grades.

Tsolakidou also received the award of Best Student of Italian Language after two years of studying the tongue. She was also best student among 500 in the ninth grade of the English school she attends. She received a medal for that since she received many Very High Achievements (VHA) and her conduct in school was exemplary.

The Greek Australian student is president of her class for the third consecutive year. She migrated from Greece to Australia at the age of 8, without knowing any English.
