Greek Orthodox Community Offers Scholarships to Greek Language Students

University-of-queenslandThe Greek Orthodox Community of St George Brisbane is offering scholarships for students who wish to study modern Greek through a program run by The University of Queensland‘s Institute of Modern Languages (IML).

The scholarships were established in 2011 and are maintained by a gift from the Greek Orthodox Community of St George Brisbane. The scholarship’s purpose is to encourage students of The University of Queensland or the IML to commence and/or continue their studies in the modern Greek language.

Two scholarships will be awarded each year on the recommendation of IML’s Director as a representative of the selection committee. The closing date for application submissions is December 1, 2014.

Applicants must submit no more than one page outlining how they meet the selection criteria. Supporting documentation like, for example, a copy of language course assessment results can be attached.

The recipients will hold the scholarships for a year, given their enrolment in an IML modern Greek language course. If a recipient fails to complete the year’s study for which the scholarship was awarded, then the scholarship must be repaid partly or in its entirety.
