Greek Australians Honored on Queen’s Birthday

australiaDuring Australia’s public holiday to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday on June 9,  nine Greek Australians out of 800 Australians, were honored for their contribution to the community.

The greatest distinction, Dame, was bestowed to the Governor of New South Wales, Marie Bashir.

Former MP for the Labour party and brother of the former Minister of PASOK, Jim Fouras, was also honored. He stated that it is a great honor and distinction for multiculturalism, that a man born in Greece managed to become the President of Queensland Parliament.

Furthermore, Professor James Tatoulis was honored for his significant service to medicine as a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Other expatriates who were given awards for their distinguished service, were Dimitrios Bellos from Queensland, Nicholas Politis, Alexander Tzannes, Katherine Evelyn Georgouras, John Fotis Karandonis from New South Wales, Petros Vlachou from Western Australia and Christos Moraitis from Australian Capital Territory.
