Russell Crowe’s New Movie Script Co-Written by Greek

Russell Crowe’s new movie “The Water Diviner” is based on a script written by screenwriter Andrew Anastasios who has collaborated with the world-famous producer and writer, Andrew Knight. Crowe will participate as a director and lead-actor in the movie.

Anastasios’ script was inspired by the letter of an Australian father who had been in Turkey during the First World War. The film takes place in 1919, when an Australian father (Russell Crowe) travels to Turkey in order to find his two sons who have been missing since the battle of Gallipoli in 1915. The script was written after research in historic archives and study of diaries of soldiers who participated in the battle. The battle of Gallipoli was  part of Winston Churchill’s plan to help the allied forces of Russians pass from the Black Sea, as the Ottoman Empire region was a strategic point for the outcome of the First World War. The battle ended up in disaster with the death of 8,000 soldiers among many of which were Australians and New Zealanders.

The movie is filmed in South Australia, Turkey and Greece. It includes scenes showing the landing of the Greek forces in Asia Minor in 1919 and an attack on a train carrying Turkish soldiers.
