Two Greek Actresses Leading in Luhrmann’s Musical

strictly ballroomThe famous Australian director Baz Luhrmann chose a second Greek actress to play in his musical “Strictly Ballroom” which is based on the famous Australian film.

Along with Phoebe Panaretos, who has already participated in many successful theatrical and TV productions, the Greek Sophia Katos will have a leading role in the show, embodying the role of Liz. In 2011 Katos had participated in “Cafe Rembetica” that traveled throughout Australia.

She is particularly proud of her origin and points out that her grandfather, at the age of 84, continues to sing in the Greek church of Geelong.

“I am excited  that a famous and successful director like Baz Lurhmann chose me to star in his musical. I am also pleased because I will co-star with another Greek, Phoebe Panaretos.” said the actress.

Phoebe Panaretos admitted that the thought of working with Baz Lurhmann caused her anxiety, but soon after their acquaintance, the director made ​​her feel incredibly comfortable and relaxed.

“Strictly Ballroom, the musical” is a story of a championship ballroom dancer who breaks the rules and follows his heart.  It has now been announced that the production will commence previews at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney on March 25, 2014, with opening night on April 12.
