Baz Luhrmann Chooses Greek Actress for Leading Role

strictly ballroomA Greek actress was chosen by the renowned Australian director Baz Luhrmann to star in his musical production “Strictly Ballroom” based on the famous Australian film.

The actress, Phoebe Panaretos, has already taken part in many theatrical productions as well as hit TV series. She began dancing at the age of 6 and first attended dance school at the age of 11, where she played the role of Rose in Cameron Mackintosh’s production, “Oliver.”

Her love for musical theater led her to continue her studies at the Newtown School of Performing Arts, from where she graduated having the best acting performance across the state. She was later accepted at the Victorian College of the Arts where she completed a three-year degree in musical theater. There, she practiced her art and met many important people in the same profession who witnessed her career steadily progress.

After graduating, Phoebe took a role in a television series called “Mr. and Mrs. Murder.” In 2012 she toured in Singapore and Hong Kong and finally in 2013, she took part in a production of “Singing in the Rain.”

“I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful Greek family, they are all so proud of me and it doesn’t matter to them if I participate in the production of Singing in the Rain; they are as excited for me to play the lead role in a Baz Lurhmann production,” she said.

Although she was worried about working with such an important director, shortly after meeting with him she felt incredibly comfortable and relaxed. Pheobe is looking forward to the hard work that is in store for her this next year when the show starts its rehearsals.
