Australian Labor Party is Becoming “Greek”

australiaSeven Greek expats will be candidates for the Australian Labor Party of Victoria (ALP) during the forthcoming State elections of Australia for the year 2014.

The Greek Australians that will compete for a seat in the Australian Senate are: Stephen Dimopoulos, Paul Klisaris, Steven Tsitas, Nikos Staikos, Lambros Tapeinos, Eleni Konsta, and Philip Dalidakis according to today’s front-page of Neos Kosmos newspaper.

Stephen Dimopoulos, Nikos Staikos, Eleni Konsta have secured a place in the party’s ballot for the seats of Oakleigh, Bentleigh and Frankston respectively.

In an interview with Greek Radio channel SBS, Mrs. Mikakos expressed her certainty, that after the State’s Elections of 2014, the ALP will be represented by Greeks in both the Australian Parliament and the Senate.

In fact, Mrs. Mikakos joked that the ALP could also be called “Greek Party Of Victoria.”

Recent opinion polls show that the ALP is in the lead, followed by the conservative government’s Liberal National Party. If these polls become a reality, Mrs. Mikakos will be the first Greek Minister in Victoria, Australia.
