Kakoulas Re-elected President of Hellenic Australian Council

The Australian Hellenic Council of Perth elected a new board of directors. Taking part in the elections were representatives from the fifteen Hellenic organizations of West Australia. The elections were held in the board room of the Greek Community in Western Australia.

The businessman and lawyer, Evangelos Kakoulas, was re-elected for the period 2013-2014.

Mr. Kakoulas, with his presence has helped the Greeks living in Australia thrive, and he has constantly supported the studies of the Greek language and civilization at the University of Notre Dame Australia. He has also been deputy mayor of Perth for consecutive years and President of the Australian Hellenic Council. Mr Kakoulas is fond of the Greek culture and history and he actively participates in the Greek current affairs, as well as supporting our national issues.

Right after his election as President of the Council, Mr. Kakoulas stated that the Council will give battles for our national issues and will do its utmost to support and to institutionalize the Greek language lessons at the Australian public schools. Greek language lessons will be obligatory in Australian public schools from 2014.

Elected as Vice-president of the Australian Hellenic Council was Savvas Papasavvas, lecturer of the University in Greek studies, Tina Kairou took the secretarial post and Theodoros Mallias will manage the Council’s Fund. All the other members of the Hellenic organizations will automatically be part of the Council.
