Sydney: Opening of the Greek Film Festival

delphi-bank-20th-film-festOn November 6, Delphi Film Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary in Sydney, in Chauvel Theatres. More than 400 people were gathered to watch the Greek blockbuster of Christoforos Papakaliatis, “What if.”

The Australian actress, comedian and television hostess, Mary Kousta was among the guests and she remembered the first time she attended the Festival, 10 years ago. “I owe my acquaintance with my husband to the Greek Film Festival.” she said.  The charismatic king of the cabaret of Australia, Paul Capsis and the actress Deborah Galanos were also present to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Greek Film Festival.

“The response of the audience was great.  Everyone is really impressed by this year’s presentation. For this evening we have selected nine Greek films from the past which will be included in a special part of the program, “the best of the program,” said Nia Karteris, president of the Festival.

After the successful screening of the film, the party continued at Paddington Town Hall with a delicious menu of canapés offered by George’s Mediterranean Bar and Grill, and drinks offered  by Fix Beer and Wild Fox wines. John Anastasiadis and Michael Peters entertained the audience with a wide variety of Greek songs.

At a special event that will take place on Saturday, November 9, Helen Bertes the producer of the film “Joy” directed by Elias Yannakakis, will be in Sydney and will answer questions after the film . Helen is one of the former founders of the GFF in Australia. “Joy” which is part of the this year’s program, is an amazing film that recounts the story of a middle-aged woman accused of kidnapping a newborn from a hospital.
