Delphi Film Festival- 20th Anniversary

westgarth-cinemaThis year, the Greek Film Festival of Australia, known as “Delphi Film Festival” celebrates its 20th anniversary.

During these 20 years, the festival has opened  towards the wider Australian audience and as many Australians are watching Greek movies.

Greek films were also being screened before “Delphi Festival”. Once, in Melbourne, there were seven Greek cinemas. When they shut down, Greek films were being presented in “Greek Week” and later in “Antipodes” festival.

“Delphi Film Festival” started 20 years ago, founded by Helen Berdes, Costas Markou and Costas Karamarkou. Since then, with the cooperation of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria, it is constantly developing. It is famous throughout Australia, and many Greek Communities from other states also participate.

This November, after many years, Helen Berdes, who now lives in Greece, will attend the Festival.

Berdes, being the producer of the film “Joy” will answer questions from the audience.

This years program includes 35 films, five of which are short films.  The screenings will take place in the Palace Como Cinema in Melbourne, in Palace Chauvel in Sydney and in Palace Contro in Brisbane. The opening will take place in Brisbane on October 31.

In Sydney and Melbourne the Delphi Bank 20th Greek Film Festival will open on November 6 and 7 respectively, with Christoforos Papakaliatis “What if.”

Then, the Film Festival will travel to Adelaide (14-17 November in Palace Nova East end cinema) and Canberra (November 29-December 14).
