Alkis Astras’ Exhibition in Melbourne

Acclaimed Greek artist Alkis Astras presents some of his greatest paintings at the Greek Museum of Melbourne. The world renowned painter at the age of 83 continues to paint in Australia, where he has lived for many years after his journeys to many countries of Europe, America and Asia.

His exhibition at the Greek Museum of Melbourne, 280 William Street, is being organized jointly by the Diaspora organization Frontida that wants to promote the work of the distinguished artist.

Born in Greece, Astras studied extensively in Europe prior to his arrival in Australia.

He is a practicing architect who is known for his realistic style of painting. He was born in Athens and grew up in the dark days of World War II and the Greek Civil War. The house in which he was born was used as headquarters both by the enemy and by the allies during the war.

He held his first personal exhibition in 1954, and since then has never ceased creating and exhibiting.

He has exhibited in many countries, and his works has been acquired by collectors including prime ministers, actors and art-lovers.
