Mirabela Steps Down From Minister Seat

mirabelaGreek-Australian Liberal Party MP, Sophia Panopoulou – Mirabela, told the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott,  not to consider her becoming minister as for at least a week there will be uncertainty of her election.

“I spoke with the Prime Minister and told him that he is free to announce the composition of the government without considering me as minister. As it is uncertain whether I will be elected or not, Australia’s interest comes first. The Prime Minister has to choose between very capable members of the parliamentary group, men and women.”

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that Mirabela has worked tirelessly to enhance the Liberal – National Coalition.

Sophia Panopoulou-Mirabela who held the Indi seat for 12 years, is facing a considerable challenge by independent Cathy McGowan. This defeat will be the biggest surprise of the election, after Mirabela held the seat with a 9% difference and was expected to get an easy win and take over the Ministry of Industry.
