Megalogenis Wins Prime Minister’s Literary Award

George-MegalogenisThe distinguished journalist of Greek descent George Megalogenis was honored with another award, this time with the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for the non-fiction category, for his book The Australian Moment.

Megalogenis, who until recently was a commentator for the newspaper The Australian, was honored with the top prize of Australian journalism (Walkley Award) for his longtime contribution to journalism.

Megalogenis has written other books dealing with immigration in Australia and its positive influence on the Australian nation.

Megalogenis expresses his disappointment that today both the government and the opposition are against the “Great Australia” through immigration, because they fear the political cost and he reveals that the majority of Australians didn’t want Greek immigrants in Australia in 1951, as it is shown in a survey of that period.

This year, the fiction prize was awarded to Michelle de Kretser for her novel Questions of Travel.
