Outline map of AustraliaIn the framework of the anniversary for the one year since the foundation of the Hellenic-Australian Business Council (HABC), the Ambassador of Australia in Greece, Jennifer Polyxeni Bloomberg hosted a dinner in her house.

In her speech to the attendees, as reported in the Council’s announcement, she referred to the importance of the Council’s formation as the first organized effort of interconnection and cooperation between Australia and Greece, two countries that traditionally have excellent relations, partly because of the populated Greek Diaspora.

Bloomberg welcomed the foundation of the Council, through the financial crisis that Greece is facing, as the first institution founded in Greece for the development of the bilateral financial and commercial relations, as it constitutes a networking framework, a dialogue platform and a springboard of cooperation.

She pointed out that in a time that extroversion, innovation and vigorous competition are the way to boost entrepreneurship and competitiveness, the Council has already contributed decidedly towards this direction, with the support of bidirectional business missions, with initiatives to support entrepreneurship for women and young people, with networking activities, with the exchange of expertise and the provision of information, with the connection of corresponding businesses in the two countries, as well as the practical assistance and support of its members.

She invited entrepreneurs, as well as Australia’s and Greece’s friends, to support and take advantage of the new institution and to seize the important opportunities offered for the two countries’ benefit.

Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Kostis Hatzidakis, welcomed the activities and the initiatives that HABC has developed and stressed out the institution’s importance in the effort to boost commercial and investment relations between the two countries.

Administrative Reform Deputy Minister Evi Christophilopoulou, Education Deputy Minister, Kostas Gkioulekas and representatives of business groups and industrial and export bodies attended the dinner.
