Aussies Host Writer Tsiolkas

c89711f752fa24867912bd82e89f54a6The official presentation of John Vasilakakos’ book about the life and the work of the famous Greek Australian author Christos Tsiolkas, entitled Christos Tsiolkas: The Silenced Story – Life and Work, was held in a special event organized in the framework of the Antipodes Festival of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria.

The main speaker was the academic Anna Chatzinikolaou, while the President of the Community Vasilis Papastergiadis made his welcome remarks on behalf of the community and the Antipodes Festival.

Tsiolkas was also present. Chatzinokolaou referred to the book, both in English and Greek, stressing that that it is the first comprehensive and systematic study of the life and work of  Tsiolkas, one of the most popular modern novelists.

Vasilakakos referred to his acquaintance with Tsiolkas and to the preparation of his book, stressing how impressed he was by this experience. Tsiolkas talks frankly and deeply about his turbulent life (childhood, adolescence and adulthood) as well as about his beloved and important issues (literature and criticism, identity, condition of humanity- decadence, materialism, spirituality, ethics, racism, animal liberation, intellectuals and mass-media, religion and death).
