Greek Accountant Zacharoudes in Prison for Theft

4053218-16x9-940x529According to the decision of the Adelaide District Court, Demetres Kyriacos Zacharoudes, accountant, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison, with a one year non-parole term.

According to ABC, Zacharoudes was found guilty of stealing more than 1 million dollars from his boss. Μore precisely, he confessed to being in the wrong for the five of twenty-seven charges of deception.

Zacharoudes’ job in EPAC Salary Solutions had to do with reconciling payments made on motor charge cards to determine reimbursement. However, he cooked the reports and made a 1,024,144.76 dollar profit that he channeled to his personal bank account as well as to his parents’ bank account.

But it came to the attention of the people of the  National Australia Bank that money was being systematically redirected into the accountant’s personal account.

The defense party supported that Zacharoudes’ nerves were affected by working too much, but the court was not persuaded. “Given your financial acumen, I find that to be an unconvincing argument,” Judge Smith said.

His deeds were characterized to be devious, cunning and gravely serious, and would not be considered as sudden or isolated acts.

The judge insisted on him being imprisoned despite Zacharoudes’ poor health condition and despite the fact that he is the only one to take care of his mother, who is also ill.
