Babiniotis’ Linguistics Talks in Australia

Professor of Linguistics and former rector of the University of Athens George Babiniotis, will be visiting Australia from November 16 to 28 as a special guest of the Nafsika Stamoulis Hellenic Museum and the Australian Institute for Macedonian Studies.

Babiniotis, who also served as Minister for Education in Greece in the past year and President of the Hellenic Foundation of Culture since 2006, will hold public lectures and seminars in Sydney (Nov. 16-19), Perth and Melbourne (Nov. 21 to 28).

During his first stop in Sydney, he will hold one lecture at the Open University of Sydney and one at the University of Sydney before the teachers and professors of Greek language at public and Greek-Australian schools.

In Perth, Babiniotis will be the honored guest of the Department of Hellenic Studies of the University of Notre Dame Australia and its coordinator Mr. Savas Papasavas. He will also deliver lectures at the Greek Community and St Andrew’s College.

While in Melbourne, Babiniotis will hold two more lectures at different schools, as well as meet with government and education officials and representatives of numerous cultural associations. He will also visit the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, where his open lecture will revolve around the Greek language issue and its presence and maintenance in a foreign environment. On November 22, Babiniotis will hold his second public lecture about Ancient Greek dialects, placing special emphasis on ancient Macedonian.
