According to Neos Kosmos, Canberra’s premier chamber ensemble, The Griffyn Ensemble will be transporting Old Melbourne Gaol to the Peloponnese in Greece with famous composer Mikis Theodorakis’ rousing March of the Spirit – a folk oratorio based on Angelos Sikelianos’ poetry, written while Theodorakis was exiled in Zatouna in the 1960’s during the Greek military junta. The composition is an hymn to democracy and freedom.
Behind Bars is the title of the music celebration which will be presented by the Griffyn Ensemble band with Michael Sollis participating. Segments of great composers’ works for human rights, freedom, independence and dignity will be played.
