Cosmas’ Last Recordings Heard in Melbourne

The accomplished Melbourne-born violinist Hector Cosmas’ last recordings before his tragic death earlier this year while playing in a squash tournament in Athens will be officially launched at two concerts in Melbourne on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6. He was 45.

A group of prominent rembetika musicians from Greece will perform from Cosmas’ last CD Heartbeat, which he recorded with Fotis Vergopoulos.

The converts will give the audience the chance to hear his illustrious music and talent in composition, while revenues will help his surviving family back in Greece.

The events will feature acclaimed musicians Agathon Iakovidis, Maria Dikta, Fotis Vergopoulos and Costas Kalamaras. The program includes rembetika and smyrnaika songs and will also present some of the pieces from Hector’s last CD.

Cosmas was a classically-trained violinist best known for his improvisations and passion for the smyrnaika and rembetika both in Greece and around the world and had a large following of fans.
