Australian Hellenic Council Conference in Canberra

Representatives of the Greek Australian community from Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, ACT, Queensland and Western Australia attended the annual Australian Hellenic Council (AHC) Conference held on Sept. 15-16 in Canberra. The AHC is the body representing the Australian Greek community nationwide.

The conference examined key issues important to the Greek community of Australia, such as the recent migration waves of incoming Greeks. The delegates discussed the issue with many MPs and the federal Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Bowen, who promised them to look further into the issue.

Other key issues of national concern including the “Macedonian” issue, Cyprus question, the Christian Genocide of Anatolia and the violation of civil and human rights of the Greek minority in Northern Epirus, were also raised. The conference was marked as a success and the milestone for further and deeper cooperation between the Greek communities of Australia.
