Australian Commentators and Politicians to Discuss the Greek Crisis at the University of Sydney

A panel of Australian commentators and politicians will come together to join in on the discussion about how the Greek crisis is affecting Australia.

As the Greek financial situation has almost turned into a political crisis, Australians with a connection to Greece watch the developing events with skepticism. Amid the deepening financial crisis and the sharpening political upheaval, Greece’s Euro exit scenarios come and go. The probability of an isolated Greece followed by a default seems to have shaken Australians as they already feel the impact of the tentative situation.

The University of Sydney brings together a panel of Australian commentators with a spectrum of views and opinions on the way forward for the country of their ancestors. Introducing the event will be Professor Jeff Riegel, Head of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney, according to the official website of the University of Sydney.

Associate Professor Vrasidas Karalis, Department of Modern Greek, School of Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Moderator); Professor Tony Aspromourgos, School of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; The Hon. Sophie Cotsis MLC, NSW Parliament; Vassileios M. Tolios, The Consul General for Greece, Sydney Consulate General; The Hon. Maria Vamvakinou MP, Federal Member for Calwell, Victoria, will be among the panelists.

The talk, titled “The Greek Financial Crisis: The View from Australia,” will take place on Thursday June 7 beginning at 6:00 pm at the University of Sydney, St James Campus, 173-175 Phillip Street, Sydney.
