‘Greek Ambassadors’ Created as a Support Movement by Young Greek-Australians

The “Ambassadors to Greece” movement was created by a group of young Greeks in Melbourne, aiming at showing their sympathy to Greece.

The initiative belongs to Evi Gianna who felt, as she admits, the necessity to proceed with this movement along with hundreds of other Greeks of Diaspora.

“I’m Greek, I was born in Egypt and migrated to Australia with my parents when I was seven years-old. I always carried along the strong feeling that I am Greek and I’ve always been proud of it. My parents contributed to that great love for my country ever since I was a small kid,” explains Evi, adding that she had always felt the need to come closer to the Greek culture. She grew up in Melbourne, where she studied psychology.

In regards to the “Ambassadors of Greece,” Evi explains, “For several months, we have been discussing with our Greek-Australian friends how we could help Greece in the current situation it has been found. We had the inspiration that ‘every Greek is Ambassador to Greece’ and that we all owe our country assistance and help. So, we initiated ‘Ambassadors to Greece,’ in order to create a feeling of pride to every Greek for his country, encouraging him to actively help Greece, regardless what the geographical proximity to it.”

“Greek Ambassadors” promises to support every compatriot in need that they meet and provide them with financial and ethical support. While the first “Ambassadors” started in Melbourne, the movement has spread through Facebook, now having 1,500 supporters.
