‘Dead Europe’ Debuts at Sydney Film Festival

The debut of the film “Dead Europe,” directed by Tony Krawitz, will be made at the 2012 Sydney Film Festival. The movie is an adaptation of Greek writer Christos Tsiolkas’ awarded book.

The main character of Tsiolkas’ story is a Greek young man of Melbourne, who arrives in Athens in early 2000, and realizes how the bad aspect of socialism has changed the city. He also travels to other European capitals, and comes to the same conclusion.

In Athens, he meets fringe groups of the capital and faces Muslim illegal immigrants, as well as the “nouveau riche” of Athens. His father, Isaak, who migrated to Melbourne, tries to cure the trauma of an old family secret through heroine.

The Sydney Film Festival will also present Yorgos Lanthimos’ Alps film and a short movie by Christopher Kezelos titled ‘The Maker.”
