Greek Man Faces Charges of Killing His Stepson

Eight years ago, Gary Adams left his home on his BMX bicycle. He was 17 years-old and living with his mother and stepfather, John Xypolotis, in Hughesdale, Victoria.

Gary vanished in December 2003. He left behind his backpack, which he carried everywhere he went, and a half-eaten meal in his bedroom.

The teenager did not use bank accounts or his mobile phone after he went missing. His mother, Jo-Ann, made a public appeal for information one year later.

After 8 years, homicide detectives found partial human remains in the backyard of the house. Anthropologists have also confirmed the remains are human.

In 2003, police investigators interrogated the stepfather for Gary’s disappearance, but he was never accused of being responsible for his murder.

John Xypolotis now faces charges of murder. After being questioned by homicide squad detectives for three hours, Xypolotis appeared confused as he was led into the prison.

Magistrate Jack Vandersteen demanded he remain in custody until August 2 when the court hearing will take place. Xypolotis made no appeal for bail.
