Michael Katsidis Training for World Boxing Title

Michael Alan Katsidis, 31, is an Australian professional boxer of Greek descent, and one of the top boxers in the world.

A former two-time WBO (World Boxing Organization) interim lightweight titleholder whose crowd-pleasing, all-action fighting style has often drawn comparisons with the late Arturo Gatti, Katsidis is now training to win the WBO title for the third time.

“I’m intensively training right now and hope that 2012 will bring me the title again”, Katsidis told ANA-MPA newspaper.

The first boxing game for the Greek-Australian athlete is in April in Las Vegas. Katsidis’s origins lie in Aetorachi of Thessaly, Greece, but he was born and raised in Queensland, Australia. He represented Australia in the Sydney Olympic Games of 2000.

Katsidis has often visited Greece and his father’s village in Thessaly, and has expressed his wish to box one day in Greece.

Katsidis appears in the ring wearing an ancient Greek helmet, while his back is covered by a Vergina Sun tattoo.
