Australian-Cypriot Co-Production Wins Best Australian Short Film at 2012 Flickerfest Festival

The latest powerful short film, The Palace, directed by Australian Anthony Maras won Best Australian Short Film at the 21st annual Flickerfest ceremony.

Shot on the battle-scarred streets of Cyprus along the United Nations Green Line that cuts the nation in two, The Palace – an Australian-Cypriot co-production – details the heart wrenching story of a Greek-Cypriot family struggling to survive, and a young Turkish Cypriot soldier trying to retain his humanity amidst the bloodshed.

Produced by Maras, Kate Croser and Andros Achilleos, representing AntHouse Films, Cyan Films and SeaHorse Films respectively, the 15-minute short netted numerous awards last year including Best Short Film (at the Melbourne International Film Festival and Sydney Film Festival) and the Audience Award in Adelaide. Last September it received a positive response at the Telluride Film Festival during its US premiere.
