Former Greek Community President Found Not Guilty of Greek Public Funds Embezzlement

Former President of the Greek community of Melbourne and Victoria Mr. George Fountas was found not guilty of embezzling Greek public funds by a Greek court and has stating that he is “relieved” from this burden he was carrying throughout the court procedures.

“The decision of the Court of Appeal put an end to this “dirty” story that has affected both me and my family for several years” told Mr. Fountas to Neos Kosmos daily.

He also underlined that this decision is simultaneously discharging him and finding guilty all those who tried to slander him both in Australia and Greece.

Founta’s case was widely known as “the Pachta cheque”, according to which, he had allegedly embezzled funds from the Greek state aiming at building the Daily College Aphington Grammar.

Current President of the Greek community Mr. Vasilis Papastergiadis expressed his satisfaction on the positive outcome of the case and wished Mr. Fountas all best for the future.
