Serial Killer Peter Dupas Still Tormenting Halvagis Family

The serial killer Peter Norris Dupas may have been jailed but his continuous chances of fighting his conviction are tormenting the family of murdered Melbourne woman Mersina Halvagis.

The brutal killer lodged his appeal papers once again and is now to secure legal aid until December 14. Legal Aid delayed in informing him they would dismiss his case and, therefore, the appeal, judges decided to give him yet another chance.

The Halvagis family hoped this time their 14-year-long torment would come to an end, but if Dupas wins the right to appeal, the case could continue into next year. Their daughter Mersina was brutally stabbed to death in November, 1997.

In case Dupas does not find a barrister, he would have to argue his case on that date.

Dupas was convicted to three life sentences with no right for parole for the murders of Greek Ms Halvagis, Nicole Patterson and Margaret Maher.

Herald Sun reported that Dupas’s appeals in the Patterson and Maher cases failed, but he was granted a retrial for the murder of Ms Halvagis after first being convicted in 2007.

A second jury found him guilty on November 19, 2010.
