Thessaloniki and Melbourne to Bridge the Distance Nov. 27

Two sister port cities, Thessaloniki and Melbourne will be celebrating their strong relations over the past 27 years with a grandiose concert on Sunday, November 27.

“This event will be the marriage of two different expressions of art: painting and music” says Mrs. BarBara Karanikola, coordinator of the event, given the fact that the main hall of the Melbourne Music Hall will include a screen projecting works of the Greek-Australian artist Nikos Soulakis.

The concert will be a tribute to major Greek composers and conductors, such as Theodorakis, Hatzidakis, Loizos, Xarchakos, Spanos, Plessas, Tokkas, Papazoglou, Tsitsanis, Mitsakis, Hiotis et. al., whose works will be performed by Greek-Australian singers and musicians.

“This is a way of keeping the music masterpieces of Greek artists alive here in the antipodes. It is a way inspiring the new generation of people to listen to, learn about and work on promoting this cultural heritage” says Mrs. Karanikola.

“The Association of Thessaloniki ‘White Tower’, the Municipality of Melbourne, the Multicultural Affairs Council of the country of Victoria and several businessmen of Greek origin are financially supporting this demanding cultural event” continues Mrs. Karanikola.

Greek-Australian singer and musician Stelios Tsiolas is responsible for the orchestration and rehearsals.
