Professor Michael Tsianikas Presents Plato at Odyssey Festival

Professor Michael Tsianikas, in collaboration with the Department of Modern Greek at Flinders University, will present the lecture Timaeus: Plato, Cosmogony and the Foundation of the Western Culture as part of the Odyssey Festival in Adelaide. The lecture will focus on one of the most influential philosophical discourses of all times.

‘Timaeus’ is a Platonic dialogue concerning the creation of the universe, the manufacture of a cosmic soul and the creation of human life by a Demiurge. In ‘Timaeus’ the most challenging metaphysical questions are discussed in an almost miraculous language.

One of the major topics is the use of geometrical procedures by the Demiurge to achieve the best possible creative results.

The lecture ‘Timaeus: Plato, Cosmogony and the Foundation of the Western Culture’ will be held on Wednesday October 12 at 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at Olympic Hall, 288 Franklin Street. Entry is free but must rsvp to (08) 4307 or email gocsa@gocsa.org.au
