Minister for Local Government Jeanette Powell announced the establishment of the interim Local Government Ministerial-Mayors’ Advisory Panel (MMAP) with the appointment of five mayors drawn from the five council groupings in Victoria.
Among the MMAP members is Greek-origin Helen Patsikatheodorou, mayor of Hume, who is going to be the representative of interface councils. The election of Helen firstly as a Mayor took place in May, 2010.
“The delivery of this election commitment highlights the Coalition Government’s determination to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the relationship between state government and local government in Victoria,” Powell said.
“The Ministerial-Mayors’ Advisory Panel will also serve as an important conduit of communication between councils with quite different needs and challenges,” Powell added.
The Minister for Local Government will chair the Panel which will meet at regular intervals.
