Minutes of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria in Electronic Form

The minutes of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, 1897-1916, is published for the first time in electronic form for the occasion of the 114th anniversary of the historic association of Greeks in Australia.

The minutes, presented on the website of the Community www.greekcommunity.com.au, include hundreds of names of the first Greek immigrants.

Through the pages, we can see the history of the association as it evolved during the first two decades of its running, such as the establishment of the first Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne (Annunciation), the contribution of the Community’s founding members in an effort to liberate Greece as well as the first statute of the Community, which is also the first statute of Greek associations in Australia ( p. 41-50).

The Community’s objective is to maintain and promote such historical documents that define the special characteristics of pioneer Greek immigrants, to the benefit of both present and future generations.

The Greek Community declares proud that it can contribute to the cultural environment of Melbourne in an attempt to determine the significance of Greek cultural identity.

Those interested can find the minutes in the following website : http://www.greekcommunity.com.au/gocmv_public/index.php/el/about-us/1897-minutes.
