Hellenic Tower Construction Plans Proceed, Melbourne

The construction plans of the thirteen storey tower, the Lonsdale St. Hellenic Cultural Centre, proposed by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria will proceed.

This is the largest grant ever bestowed to a community group in Victoria. Premier of Victoria, Mr. Ted Baillieu, on behalf of the state government, granted $2 million to the Greek community to be used for the construction.

At an event organized at the Community building, with the presence of Minister of Multicultural Affairs, Mr. Nikolaos Kotsiras, Consul General, Mrs. Eleni Lianidou, and businessmen, the Premier announced that his government will keep its word.

The whole construction will cost about $12,000.000.  It will start in the upcoming months and will be completed in 2013.

Community President, Mr. Bill Papastergiadis, stated that four of its storeys will house a multimedia centre, community rooms, and a Hellenic archive; wheraeas the other nine storeys will be leased.
