Greek Included in National Program of Language Learning of Australia

According to an announcement of the Australian Minister of Education, Peter Garrett (photo), the Greek language will be included in the National Program of Language Learning of Australia. The Greek deputies of the Australian Labor party, Steve Georganas and Maria Vamvakinou expressed their satisfaction about their successful achievement. According to the deputies,  Greek is very popular in Australia and is spoken by 250,000 people, according to a 2006 report. It is important to note that the two big parties of the Greek Assembly had also asked Australian authorities to introduce Greek language courses in Australian schools.
