Our position regarding the Skopje issue remains unchanged

Assurance that Australia’s position with regards to the issue of the name of FYROM remains unchanged was given by the Prime Minister of the country in a meeting he had in Canberra with representatives of the Australian Greek Council. Mr. Kevin Rudd expressed his hopes that soon a resolution will be achieved, adding that until this becomes possible, Australia will continue to recognize the neighboring country under the name FYROM.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rudd assured the Greek representatives that his Government strongly supports the efforts to resolve the Cypriot issue within the framework of decisions and initiatives taken by the UN.

The meeting of the representatives of the Australian Greek Council with the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was the summit of their contacts with the political leadership of Australia.
Overall, the council members met with 47 ministers, MPs and senators, with whom they discussed a number of issues regarding the Greek Diaspora and national issues of Greece.
The contacts were preceded by the annual conference of the Council in Canberra.
“We are absolutely pleased by the results of our conference and the answers which were given by the Prime Minister and his Ministers, the leader of the opposition and all politicians we met” stated to ANA-MPA, on behalf of the Australian Greek Council, its coordinator, Patricia Drivas.
