Hellenes raise money for Haiti

leogane-haiti-pic-dm-ian-vogler-745564000The Greek-Australian community will lend their support to help the survivors that have been devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.
The Hellenic Emergency Relief Fund, in conjunction with the Cyprus Community of New South Wales and the club’s restaurant manager, is organising a fundraising luncheon at the Cyprus Community of New South Wales Club on the February 21, with all proceeds to go to earthquake victims.
President of the Hellenic Emergency Relief Fund, Michael Christodoulou said that the tragedy was close to his heart because his son was in the region when the earthquake struck.
“I was worried about him but he texted me immediately to say that he was okay and on the other side of the island in the Dominican Republic,” he reflected.
“For a moment I could imagine the possibility of my children going overseas and never seeing them again.”
Mr Christodoulou said that he was eager to raise as much money as possible to help give some relief to the poverty stricken victims.
He underscored that he would prefer that all Hellenes chip in together, and pass on the funds as a Greek-Australian community.
“Whatever we raise will go to the Red Cross or direct to the honorary consulate Honoury Consult of Haiti in Sydney.
We will accept all donations, and also assistance from business as we have a raffle.”
If you would like to contribute to the fund by making a donation, please contact Michael Christodoulou on 0412622467 or the Cyprus Community of New South Wales on (02) 95571256.
