The Richest Greeks of Australia

A recent publication, Greek Rich List, has conducted a list with the richest people of Greek descent in Australia. We publish the first five names of the list. You can find the full list here.

1. Con and Ross Makris (AUD $1.1 billion)
Con and his son, Ross shared a lot of success in building and developing shopping centers. Ross is the richest man in Australia under 40 years of age. Con Makris is the first Australian billionaire. They own 11 shopping centers in Adelaide and 2 in Melbourne and Sydney.

2. Paspaley Family ( AUD $620 million)
Made their fortune in the pearling industry. The family was one of the few who lived among the Aboriginal tribes and Asian pearl fisherman. After Nicholas Paspaley passed, the children carried his legacy and developed Paspaley Pearling Company, the largest pearling company in Australia.

3. Kerry Harmanis (AUD $520 million)
Kerry’s company, Jubilee Mines was founded in 1987 specializing in nickel mining. He is a law degree and believes in Asian philosophy. He spends much of his time on spiritualism meditation and playing the mandolin.

4. Stamoulis Family (AUD $411 million)
The late Spiros Stamoulis was from Epirus, Greece. He Established the Gold Medal soft drink in Melbourne. Spiros made his money with CBD property development and investment. The Stamoulis family owns Greek Media Group, which includes a radio station and Greek newspaper, “Ta Nea”. Spiro always wanted to develop the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne. After his death in 2007, the family has continued with the project.

5. Karidis Family (AUD $300 million)
The Karidis corporation Ltd is headed by Petter and Gerry Karidis, and is the largest property development and investment businesses in South Australia. The past 40 years they built 5,000 structures. Gerry is involved in working with the government to develop affordable housing for all. Gerry said his greatest motivation was “to give people confidence to exceed their own expectation”
