Greek Australians took part in a demonstration in Melbourne on Sunday to protest what they called the “sellout of Macedonia” and to coincide with a massive rally taking place in Thessaloniki.
Organized through Facebook by a group called ‘Macedonia is Greek – Human Rights Group’, the rally was ignored by the official Greek organisations, with some community leaders dismissing Sunday’s event as being hastily planned.
Neo Kosmos reports that Peter Jasonides, president of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria, distanced himself and his organisation from the “faceless” rally, calling for a more organized approach.
However, organizers say official numbers provided by police estimated the attendance at between 4,000 to 5,000 people.
