Not Your Typical Teen: Australia’s Youngest CEO Is a 16-Year-Old Greek-Australian

Australia’s youngest CEO is a Greek-Australian teenage girl named Alessandra (Ali) Kitinas and she is not your typical teen – Ali is only 16-years-old and has already started two businesses.

“At a very young age for most, I decided that I wanted to be my own boss so that I don’t have to depend on anyone and be financially secure by standing on my own two feet; although I am also a very passionate performer, I understand that it would be really hard to gain financial security in that field,” Ali told Neos Kosmos.

The young Sydney-based entrepreneur launched her first social media marketing agency named Outside The Square (OTS) at the age of 11.

“I am young and therefore the social media industry has always been of interest to me mainly because I understand the way it works,” Ali explained.

Her latest success story, a two-year-old company called Freedom Scrub Foundation, is a company that is using the rich resources of Australia to produce ethically sourced body scrubs made from recycled coffee grounds. Ali is not only business conscientious, she also makes sure that a portion of her products proceeds go toward helping children living in poverty and war zones in partnership with Ireland’s HOPE Foundation.

Being a CEO of two businesses is not easy and the teenager has to find a balance to her school work and running her companies. While other students her age use their time outside of the classroom as a break to stop working hard and relax, Ali uses her free time to the fullest as she explained to Neos Kosmos: “School remains my main priority. Therefore, I make sure I schedule my day to start early so that it can be as productive as possible. In order to get enough time to do my homework during school hours, I set the clock for 6 a.m. to do some work for the two businesses and during lunch and recess I catch up on the rest.”

Ali is also participating in the St Vincent de Paul’s CEO Sleepout fundraiser which aims at raising money to fight homelessness and poverty; something which the teen is passionate about.

“The organizers have picked the coldest winter night so that we can all feel how difficult and challenging it is to live on the streets,” she explained.
